Wartime at Cregneash

As part of the Island at War weekend, a 1940s event on the Steam Railway, hop on our free vintage bus to Cregneash from Port Erin Station.

  • See our Women’s Land Army undertake work on the farm and see vintage tractors in action
  •  Escape the misery and austerity of the war and join a wartime tea dance lesson (2pm – 4pm) or just enjoy the atmosphere and have some tea and cake
  • ‘Mend and make do’ – get tips from Dig for Victory, make your rations go further wartime cookery and join our craft circle in St. Peter’s Church
  • Watch life on the Island during wartime come to life with mini promenade performances by the History in Action Players
  • In partnership with St. Peter’s Church you can hear stories about life on the Island during the War and share your own wartime memories
  • Join a special WWII church service with Reverend Joe Heaton on Sunday afternoon at 3.15pm
  • Have your hair styled 1940s with The Victory Roll hairdressers (Sunday only)

  • Make Do & Mend Sewing Workshop, 11am & 1pm, £10, tea and cake included (Saturday & Sunday)
  • Guided tour of the WWII Radar Station at Meayll Hill, 10am & 12pm, £4
  • Tickets are available from Friday 9 August at Cregneash, the Manx Museum or call 834993.

Getting to Cregneash

  • A free vintage bus transfer departs on the hour from 11:00 from Port Erin Railway Station, via Port St Mary Station, Scoill Phurt le Moirrey and Cregneash, last service returns from Cregneash at 16:30.
  • Scheduled route numbers 8 and 8A also stop at Cregneash from a choice of destinations in the South.

PLEASE NOTE: An extra train will be providing shuttle runs to and from Port Erin and Port St Mary, this service will depart in between the regular timetabled service and is free to those with any steam train tickets valid for that day. Regular fare applies for those without.
